Description

Continua is a three-oscillator / dual-filter six-voice virtual analog synth, with fully polyphonic modulation sources and built-in custom-designed effects, for everything from complex, evolving chill-out soundscapes to New Wave synth stabs Full PDF manual available at the Audio Damage website. • Standalone Version w/ IAA and AUv3 Your Continua purchase comes with a standalone version (with Inter-App Audio) and an AudioUnit V3 for using with an AUv3 host like GarageBand, Cubasis, or AUM. • Three Flexible Oscillators Continuously variable morphing waveform, with warp, shape, and skew controls. • Dual Morphing Filters Filters can be used in serial or parallel modes, and morph from lowpass through bandpass and highpass to notch in 2-pole and 4-pole configurations. • Noise Source Noise source features a "color" control that affects tonal characteristics of the noise. • ADSR x 2 Continua has two ADSR-style envelope generators, with curve on attack, decay, and release. • Flexible Envelope Generator (FEG) x 2 The two FEGs are arbitrary function generators, with up to 99 steps, curve and step level control, arbitrary loop points, and host tempo sync. • Flexible Low-Frequency Oscillator (FLFO) x 4 The four FLFOs utilize four controls (phase, shape, skew, and warp) to access a virtually limitless palette of waveforms, and feature host tempo sync and retrigger. • Sample And Hold The S&H mod source can sample noise (random) or any of the other mod sources, at either a user-defined rate or a musical division, and includes built-in smoothing and distance limit (for a "walk" effect). • Modulation Every knob in Continua is a mod destination, with a very fast and simple assignment matrix access with a right-click on the knob (double-tap on iOS). • Tuning Tables And Global Tuning Offset Re-tune Continua to new intonations and temperaments using the open-source and easy-to-use TUN file format. A global tuning offset (default to A=440) allows you to easily retune the entire synth to match a different A frequency without using a tuning table. • MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) Continua understands both "legacy" MIDI and MPE. Use your Linnstrument, Roli Seaboard, Haken Continuum, Madrona Labs Soundplane, or Sensel Morph (among others) to directly access per-note pressure, pitch bend, and modulation. • Per-Instance Settings Continua utilizes a per-instance customization method: set MPE mode, aftertouch smoothing, pitch bend range override, tuning table, and global tuning offset for each instance in your DAW, with an option to save any state as your global starting point. • Factory Presets Continua comes with a substantial collection of factory content, including Designer Presets from Red Means Recording, Glitch Machines, Red Sky Lullaby, and SonalSystem. • Cross-Platform Preset Format Continua utilizes an XML-based preset manager. Work between multiple systems without troubles, make a preset on your desktop machine and paste it to the iOS version with Handoff, easily share your creations with your friends, or make a preset bundle to sell.

  • Great, unique sounding synth

Another synth from Audio Damage that sounds totally unique. Some reviews complain about a lack of MIDI mapping but the controls are all there in the AUv3 extension. Just load it up in AUM or the DAW of your choice and map to your heart’s content!
  • Limited to six voices

Wonderful synth that is severely hampered by only six voices poly. Why? Also no unison detune control. It’s really too bad because it does have an excellent sound, but I find 8 voices minimum is acceptable for a poly synth, 16 minimum with unison. That puts this synth in a really weird place where it’s only useful for keys and plucks, not pads and definitely no problem supersaw. It isn’t a CPU issue because these six voices barely touch the processor on my iPad. Very weird limitation on an otherwise great synth, but it handicaps the thing so much that i can only give two stars.
  • Lush, beautiful sounds!

Since this whole iPad synth revolution began I’ve purchased over 100 synths. Most are still on my iPad. This one resides in my top 10! Though it doesn’t have near the patch list as, say SynthMaster One, the patches that come with it are so lush and full and just simply beautiful! It’s an easy synth to edit and create great patches with. This app should get way more love! I highly recommend it!
  • I tried to email support but too stupid to figure it out

I love ALL apps by Audio Damage and advocate ANYONE to just buy them. You won’t regret. But... any chance on implementing a midi keyboard on ALL of your AuV3’s and be able to record the pitch automation??? That would be phenomenal, as I have been having some issues with other apps midi capabilities so it’d be nice to use them again.
  • Pretty cool synth

I initially wrote that this synth only listened on ch1 in AUv3 mode, well now in the current version it’s listening in Omni (all ports) as it should. So in your DAW of choice you can just select which channel(s) you want to assign to Continua. Must have been a bug. Glad it’s fixed now! 👍 Continua doesn’t attempt to cover a huge harmonic range, instead, it goes deeper into exploring a particular range of sound. It sounds good on it’s own but I often use it combined with other synths, as it gives them a well defined highs/mids range that they wouldn’t be able to produce otherwise. Highs/mids range is also the bread and butter for making ambient sounds by adding reverb. And sure enough, Continua comes with a very capable reverb for this purpose. UI of this app is really great. In particular, I love the ease of assigning modulation. It’s tied to the knobs directly, instead of some matrix or LFO... Simply double tap on any knob and add any of the modulations you want - and there’s a lot! One request, please make scrolling through presets easier. For now, when scrolling it selects a preset under your finger.
  • Midi mapping????????????????????

Can we pleeeeeeaaaaasssseeee get midi mapping to midi controllers, it’s 2020, we aren’t savages living in the dark ages. Other than that the synth is great but no midi mapping is extremely amateur.
  • So good

This has quickly become my go to synth when I start a session in AUM. The presets are lovely and the interface is straight forward enough to easily build something complex and beautiful from scratch. The range of this synth is amazeballs - everything from hard distorted glitch to lush ethereal pads. The modulation possibilities are almost overwhelming because they’re so extensive (a very good thing). The hours I spent just happily playing this with my roli were worth the price alone. I’ll be spending a long long time exploring this synth. I’ve had no latency issues, personally. Aside from the occasional stuck key my only real issue was with Bluetooth not working but that was quickly fixed. btw- People giving one star reviews for features they personally want that weren’t included is the definition of entitled petulance. 😒
  • Great synth

Good good. Don’t believe the haters! This app is the greatest MPE synth out there. So easy to program with the Linnstrument. This app deserves more love.
  • Great concept, horrible latency

Even with the lowest sample rate, latency is unbearable. Running latest OS, iPad pro
  • NICE BUT... NO MIDI MAPPING??

Ya’ll do some great FX and sexy GUI. But I must admit something is always lacking with the Instruments. Continua has no midi mapping and that renders it much less useful to me. I find that should be standard in any instrument today. As for modulation mapping, I personally prefer the GUI implementation in Quanta, but its not a deal breaker. But that midi mapping, man. Please fix.
