  • Toxic Game that Enables Bullying

    1
    By Rob Knoxville
We have a player on server 93 who has made the game so toxic that several really high level players have quit the game and many more low level players are quiting too. The player has been reported to Scopely countless times for inappropriate communications where he disparaged Veterans, the disabled, and women. I have seen him post messages about people’s wives and their mothers. He literally has dedicated his time to ruining the game for hundreds of players. He brags about it in Galaxy Chat on a daily basis and Scopely does nothing. Why? Because he spends so much money that they turn a blind eye. I have been a daily player for over a year, but I am about to walk away because of how stunted my progress has been in the game and the toxicity/bullying Scopely allows to foster and seems to enable. Scopely does not enforce TOS when it comes to bot use nor for basic moral decency. How many hundreds of reports do you have to receive about a player before you take action? Apparently it is infinite if they are big spenders. Sad that they allow one or two rotten apples to spoil the game for hundreds. They should remove the ability to hit survey ships that have not exceeded their protected cargo limits, it only encourages poor gamesmanship and bullying. If you want to spend $1000s of dollars to bully other players, then this is your game.

The game started out fun, and something to pass the time. As I’ve gotten more invested in the game, I’ve found that developer only cares about the bottom line, and not about the players quality of life. The updates/releases are constantly buggy, and fixes are seemingly prioritized by revenue stream. There have also been multiple users who have quit the game due to the toxicity of players and their use of bots making it near impossible to play. Scopely has been contacted with usernames, screenshots, videos, and all you get is a boiler plate response. Because the troll spends money, nothing happens. Star Trek was founded on inclusivity, and not being hateful for the sake of it. I understand this is a business at the end of the day, but why waste your time, energy, and money on something like this?

All the positive reviews are paid reviews…. Notice how all the TikTok adds don’t allow comments…. That’s because they can’t control the narrative. Unless your willing to spend $1000 monthly, do t bother. Go to their official discord before making a decision.

Update: received a very, very nice response from the developers about game balance. I’m still not going to pick it back up, but I bumped the rating from 1 to 3 stars because other than PvP, I like the game Unrestrained PvP is awful. It’s not good, and it isn’t fun. Someone decided they were going to target me, and I have no way to block them or remove myself. So, the game is getting deleted. It was briefly fun, and I like the Star Trek of it. Hate PvP more than I like Star Trek, so it’s done.

Do you have time to monitor and keep yourself protected 24 hour a day? No? This game is not for you. Higher level players will ALWAYS be able to attack you and you I’ll have no power to stop them. You can’t either follow intricate rules and constantly make sure you aren violating them, or you can die multiple times a day from players who enjoy antagonizing you. Don’t play this game. It’s built for the people who started playing years ago, and you’ll never catch up. It’s costs $100 to unlock characters or ships. One of the most absurd, money grubbing games I have ever played.
