  • Excellent!

Excellent app to memorize words! I only wish it would include voice with AI for less studied languages!
  • Goodbye friend

I have been using memrise since 2012. I loved it and advocated its effectiveness to hundreds since then. Unfortunately the first indication to me that bad things were coming was after they removed the ability to add community courses through the mobile app several years ago. Well the bypass was to add them to your account via browser then you had access in the app. Now they are removing community content completely from the app with a don't panic solution of “we will provide a url link to allow access via browser on mobile”. We can all see where this is going. I like many veteran users and supporters have lost trust and will find it hard to invest any further time with memrise. It’s time to move on to prevent loosing progress when they finally decide to pull the plug on any community content. Good luck competing with other centralised cookie cutter one size fits all learning experiences like the ranks of duolingo and the like. I will remember you for who you were and not for what you are becoming. You will be missed 💔
  • I like it, but only for certain languages

    By LadySlan
I’m currently learning 3 languages, with 2 more i’d like to learn in the future. Right now for Korean and Spanish this app is great. I like that with Korean it takes you through the Hangul alphabet. However, it does not do the same when it comes to the Japanese course. Japanese has Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji. The app does not teach you these three in sections, but rather throws them all at you at once. There is no option to remove Kanji, which makes it extremely difficult to learn the words. Especially because in reviews you often have to write them out.
  • Betrayed!

    By Haasenpfeffer
Memrise randomly destroyed lesson progress I had been working on for 8 years. I had been a diligent learner and loyal customer who was treated like garbage with no warning, no customer service report, and poor communication. Beware, if you use this app you will be betrayed like I was!
  • Seven years of successful language learning now over

    By exocartographer
I’ve used Memrise for the last seven years to successfully learn languages I’ve used abroad, at work, and in learning ancient languages and dabbling in some endangered languages. But they deleted all of those features because I guess every app had to be a VC backed AI wielding monstrosity aiming for global domination, and making the best app in an underserved niche is an unwanted second place prize. This is a real shame as most other alternatives are not good. Anki does not use the burn-in technique Memrise did when you first learn a new card/word/phrase. The green owl tricks people interested in learning a language and gets them addicted to gamified simple rote drills that don’t get you remotely close to fluency or a working vocabulary. I think this company just burned down their own house. They clearly don’t understand their customers or the niche they serve. And to top it all off, they tried to push everyone into a lifetime subscription right before the change. No user will ever trust them again.
  • Update Ruined the App

    By Merpmooproo
I used the app in high school and college to not only study languages but also other things; anatomy, chemistry, language arts, etc, etc. But now the app is basically a knock off duolingo. The community lessons were the best part and now we have to do backflips to access what originally was the whole purpose of the app. Very disappointed with the direction they’ve taken.
  • Conversation feature needs to be rethought

    By Vivxdesign
As a paying user, I really loved this app, but the last update with the forced Conversation AI feature is awful. I cannot have a conversation with words I don’t know. If I’m somehow supposed to be able to understand all these words I haven’t learned yet, please tell me how. Also even if I could somehow use it, it really halts progress and makes me not want to return and not look at the Home tab because it forces me into an advanced conversation I’m not ready for
  • Works for me

    By Rabiah-Anderson
After a few days of not being able to use the app after the last update, I am now able to use it again, and am once again pretty happy with it. I am somewhat confused as to why the app and website don’t seem to sync completely (or perhaps it’s just slow). On the website, it says my study streak is 1391, but on the app it says 1390 (still after almost a full day), and I had to do another study session in order to complete my goal and bring the app’s number up to 1391 also. Kinda weird, but it still works. Maybe it syncs at update time only…?
  • 🤬

    By 안녕하세요 👋🏼
Why the freak did y’all get rid of the mobile features? It was so convenient. This isn’t an update— it’s just dated at this point. As a user for many years, I’m freaking disappointed beyond belief.
  • Kinda terrible

    By Christopher R R
Free version is pretty useless and monthly fees are substantial (> $20/month). Not able to add a second language after one is added, very limited value on the little content that is free, and overall better alternatives are out there for basic learning. This is basically a capitalistic version of Anki (free) that that's not as good nor user friendly.
