Description

Strava makes fitness tracking social. We house your entire active journey in one spot – and you get to share it with friends. Here’s how: • Record everything – runs, rides, hikes, yoga and over 30 other sport types. Think of Strava as the homebase of your movement. • Discover anywhere – our Routes tool uses de-identified Strava data to intelligently recommend popular routes based on your preferences. You can also build your own. • Build a support network – Strava’s about celebrating movement. Here you’ll find your community and cheer each other on. • Train smarter – get data insights to understand your progress and see how you improve. Your Training Log is the record of all your workouts. • Move safer – share your real-time location with loved ones while outdoors for an extra layer of safety. • Sync your favorite apps and devices – Strava is compatible with thousands of them (Apple Watch, Fitbit, Garmin – you name it). • Join and create challenges – join millions in monthly challenges to chase new goals, collect digital badges and stay accountable. • Embrace the unfiltered – your feed on Strava is filled with real efforts from real people. That’s how we motivate each other. • Whether you’re a world-class athlete or a total beginner, you belong here. Just record and go. Strava includes both a free version and a subscription version with premium features. Strava uses HealthKit to export your Strava activities into the Health app and to read heart rate and biometric data. You can subscribe and pay on the App Store, using your Apple ID. Payment will be charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. Your subscription will automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period. Subscriptions may be managed by the user and auto-renew may be turned off after purchase by going to the ‘Manage Subscription’ page in settings. Any unused portion of a free trial period, if offered, will be forfeited when the user purchases a subscription to that publication, where applicable. The subscription will renew at the same cost. Stop or I stop paying. You’re making what was a great app garbage!

I’m supposed to have a 30 day trial first. The app even said I won’t be billed till May 25. But sure enough I was hit with an annual charge today with the money I don’t have for this. And then I’ll probably get hit with a negative fee. All because I wanted to try some features for this app that was going to work with a work challenge app. Ugh

Every approx 20th time Strava messes up the recording. Luckily today I was recording with Map My Run also. Strava recorded my run at .28 miles when it was actually 3.5 miles. I like Strava for the social experience, and my friends motivate me to workout. But I prefer Map My Run because it shows calorie count without a subscription. I would give it 4 stars if it worked every single time, and 5 if it had calorie burn.
  • For Social, Not for Athletes

Strava is a social media platform designed for sharing workouts with friends. It is not designed for serious athletes trying to track workouts. The GPS on Strava is absolutely abismal. I used Nike Run on the same phone for years with almost no issues ever. As I’m writing this, I’m trying to get Strava to begin tracking distance for my run. I’ve stopped it three times as it doesn’t start its tracking. This is a normal occurrence. It often picks up somewhere half a mile in and reports my time as some absurdly slow pace. This is a common complaint among many users. It also has no useable stop feature, if you get stuck at a red light, etc. The stop feature if turned on, stops and starts at any given time in any given place. Again, Nike Run gives a few seconds to confirm movement is indeed stopped. Strava shows no interest in fixing this because they’ve managed to make this a fun, social app and has no need to function like an app for real athletes.

The quality of this app has been deteriorating in recent years. Strava pushes out update after update to both the mobile app and the watch app, but its performance just seems to keep getting worse or stagnating. On random occasions, the watch app will hang up when I try to open it, saying “Loading…” without any sign that it is making progress loading, or that I’ll be able to use the app again. On one occasion, the endless load screen lasted 15 minutes!!! The mobile app suffers from similar problems when I am trying to load my stats, including my Fitness measurement. These performance problems are making it increasingly difficult to justify a subscription to Strava, and has already compelled me start looking for alternatives.

If you sign up for the trail membership they’ll automatically charge you once the trial is over. I’m out $80 for an app I don’t want

This app has basically become a constant advertisement to subscribe to the paid version as there is little functionality to the free version.

I hope someone on the product team reads this, the new progress graph is horrible. It was awesome when it was a weekly total, this new one just doesn’t work
