Current S1 Controller Not Receiving Updates from Sonos Servers

Just brought my Play:5 out of retirement and install was going fine until it said it needed to be updated. I now get error 1101 and the error appears within milliseconds of clicking update that it has to be something broken within the app. It doesn’t even attempt to install the update on the Play:5. Customer service tried the usual suspects (WiFi, rebooting, factory resetting) and eventually pushed me towards a 30% discount for a new product. Not the answer - not for my wallet or the environment. Really hoping for an update that fixes this as well as the string of other issues the recent reviews of the S1 app have stated.

I installed this app hoping it would work with my ZP120 and ZP90, or at the very least with my Play:3. All I got was an error 1101.

Why has the issue of the “song encoded wrong “ message and inability to play that song through the Sonos app not been fixed yet? This new update that’s coming better have a fix for that or I’m finding a new speaker ecosystem. That’s why my review is so low. Other great speakers, but right now terrible app.
Kind of glitchy

I share the app with my mom, and she’s created so many playlists. I attempted to delete them, rename them, and add things to them. It kept saying “ unable to delete/rename playlist 12” or “unable to add to playlist 10” and then I clicked on different playlists to see what was on them that I could delete, and it said that they were all empty. Frustrating because I wanted to make a summer playlist. But other than that, it’s an enjoyable experience with our old Sonos’s.
Frustrating Experience

As a Product Manager, I appreciate seamless user experiences and intuitive customer onboarding. Unfortunately, my recent experience with the Sonos S1 controller and the mandatory transition to the new Sonos app fell short of these expectations. Attempting to set up my older Sonos Play:5 in my office became an hours-long ordeal. Despite multiple resets and even trying a direct Ethernet connection, the S1 controller app frustratingly forced a switch to the new Sonos app, blocking any possibility of reverting to the older version. I tried deleting and reinstalling the apps but no luck. This resulted in one of the worst user interfaces I have encountered, severely complicating what was once a straightforward process. I had always recommended Sonos for its ease of setup, but this experience has shaken my confidence in their products to the point where I am considering selling my Sonos stock.

Every upgrade makes the system not work and tries to force you to buy new speakers when nothing is wrong with your existing ones

Now disconnects and has to be reconfigured all the time. $2500 worth of plastic apparently is what I bought.
