This is what I have been looking for. I am not sure why it took me so long to find a free application that can encrypt files with a password. Super easy to use. Does what it says it does. Free. I can't find a single negative thing to say about it. Well done!

I have many files that need regular encryption. I was encryoting them with random generation before---which is in part how Encrypto workd; but, Encrypto has just made this entire process simplier; I can't thank Mac Paw engough fot his added tool.

Wondering if this application is still being supported by the developers. I used it for a couple years without incident. Now that I've updated an older MBP to Catalina, the app crashes when attempting to run it. Unfortunately, I have some pretty important files that are now inaccessible. Anyone else with this problem and a possible solution please comment. Thanks.
  • Version 1.4.0 crashes when opening .crypto file

Running MacOS 10.15.7 on Intel. This app was adequate before, but now it's completely useless. It crashes as soon as it tries to open the file that the previous version of the app had made. Beware! I didn't ask for this update, it just happened "automatically".

As others have reported, upgrading to v. 1.4.0 may render the app unusable, even if you are using a supported MacOS version. This happened to me once before several years ago. This time I tried replacing the update with an old saved version and it worked. If you have a Time Machine, Backblaze or other backup that includes a previous version of Encrypto, it may work if you delete the new app and open the old version. Note: I did not delete any of the support files, so I would not usean app "cleaner" or manually trash Encrypto data files. Simply delete the app in your Applications folder. As for me, I am going to switch to a more reliable, if less convenient method of data encryption. Moral of the story: It's free, there is no support, so why do we trust it?

It tells you to upgrade on the App Store with no regard or warning to if your current Mac OS is incompatable with this upgrade. It will crash upon opening and becomes useless. Plus there are no options for downloading an older compatible version.

I downloaded the app but kept crashing. Tried to install it again, but the same thing kept happening. Couldn't use it.
  • New version crashes immediately after launching.

Updated to latest version release. App was working fine before update, now update quits after launching and I can't open my encrypted files. How can I get the previous version of the app?
