  • Crashes my iPad completely

This app has been very helpful in learning Scandinavian languages. But it has a glitch. It often opens to a white screen and the only resolution os to reinstall it. Not anymore. STILL IT SHUTS THE ENTIRE IPAD DOWN when I change to another language. Sending a screenshot makes no sense; the shot would be a black screen. Sometimes the ipad will restart, other times I need to restart it. I’d give this a five star for the teaching method, but the steps that were originally suggested did not work. Log out, reinstall, fine for a few weeks, but crashing again. I use the iPad keyboard that has the characters on it for the language, and I am learning, Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish. Additionally, why is an icon on my home screen that talks about. ”everyday conversations updated”, yet when I access it, I am not able to use it?!!! An error screen appears. There is plenty of material to learn. If the app doesn’t work, take it off!

I bought the lifetime subscription, but seeing the mistranslations on the very beginning lessons that are suppose to be the easiest is dishearting. I took screen shots but cant add them here. But they translate “¿Están casados?" to "Are you married?” And they translate “Ellas beben unos vasos de leche.” to “They are drinking some glasses of milk.” If there are mistakes in the easiest lessons how am I to be confident that the harder lessons are mistake free?

Functional wise, it’s perfect. I’ve used it on the computer, tablet, and phone. And while technically, it is better than Duolingo, for the money it’s not worth it. You’re better off to get the paid version of Duolingo. In my opinion, this program is a mix of time wasting absurdly easy tasks, mixed with things of impossible difficulty. Because they will ask you questions on things that contain words that they did not teach you out of nowhere. Or they may show you something once and then just presume you to know it forever. There’s no study sheets on verb conjugations so that you can memorize them or anything of this nature that I’ve seen. It’s just simply not good. Not in my opinion. I think if you wanna learn a language, you’re better off to just do a hodgepodge of whatever free programs you can get like Duolingo and just look things up on the Internet yourself and just memorize stuff and then do a mixture of watching TV and movies and possibly talking to chat gpt, etc
  • Not As Advertised

It is not as advertised. In the ad and in the pictures it said nowhere about a subscription. Then once I had spent fifteen minutes doing the introduction, signing up and the first lesson, it suddenly says I need an expensive subscription to continue. I’m disappointed. For those who can afford it, it would be a great app, but not for me (a broke student). Hopefully we can get a free version with ads soon.
  • Methods of learning

When doing the lessons and having only one answer below, it gives the answer away. Additionally, trying to figure out what the lesson entails is difficult at times without an explanation. Lastly, the student should be able to go back to beginning lessons and review and this is very difficult to do. I’ve been studying vocabulary on my own with much better success than what I’ve gained from Babbel. As a result I have been avoiding Babbel.
  • Sneaky auto renew

Auto renews without warning, only tells you when you’re charged. And if you try to cancel the day you find out, they won’t let you until the next cycle. That’s the behavior of an app that doesn’t believe in its offering. Bad form.
  • Spelling

I’m only a few lessons in and it seems very spelling based. It shows you the words once or twice and then has you fill in the word with the letters. I was really loving it at first but I had to download a few other apps to get me through it. It may be teaching you one skill but throws a ton of vocab you’ve never seen before into the mix and it can get over whelming fast!
