  • so many bad design choices

The interface for this owrd processors is terrible. Way too clunky opening new documents. The color gradient thing has no rhyme or reason to how it works--sometimes you cant even cahgne the color of large clumps of text, sometimes a minute later you can aftrer you click aroiund. Sometimes pasting new text next to other colors will change it to match sometimes it won't Just a tedious pain in every way Likewise with text. Two differnet types of text next to each toher and it just shuts down any way to unify them in one highlight. Word processors never used to be this clunky before they got this overdetailed nad pretentious
  • Fails to open its own documents

I migrated from Windows and using Microsoft Office, and I'm disappointed in Apple's Pages app. I've created numerous documents using Pages (and saving in .pages format), but recently the Pages fails to open the documents that were created using Pages. I have tried numerous fixes that I've found online, but nothing has worked. I never encountered anything like this on Windows or Linux, and this is a fail for Apple.

I *like* Pages. For the most part I actually think it's superior to Word. (I'm a professional and and expert and about 95% of Word's functions are either used wrong or not at all.) But, and I've seen this before at Apple (check out the iPad Mini's history compared to it's reviews), there's someone incharge that doesn't love their work. There are bugs, shortcomings, and poor design choices that have languished for *years* unaddressed. Even the name, "Pages", makes a web search for help useless. That being said, the product works well and is far less frustrating than Word. Plus, not spyware (yet…). Pages has a clean interface, but it has some severe ergonomic flaws that slow down and hinder work. (I believe these problems, like similar problems with Numbers is due to not wanting the products to look like M$'s offerings (which copied other software anyway, we all know Lotus was best ;)). Built in drop caps are very cool. The last time I had to do that in Word it was a nightmare of micromanaging images and mispelling words. Unfortunately, the nice base settings don't allow for changing the font or using a background image or font. *sniff* And I have these cool initial caps fonts languishing on my drive. There is a choice of background shape but it's just a colored rectangle… You can choose the color and how rounded the corners are, plus a frame… but you can't make them truly fancy and express yourself creatively. At the end of the day, that's what it's about really. isn't it? Can you use the program to express yourself freely or is it struggle to make it do something close to you want? Well, almost… sort of… I have hope. You've gotta have hope.
  • Zero Star(s) for Business Cards Templates

The Pages template for Business Cards is next to impossible to use. Rather than being able to create a single card and duplicate it for an entire sheet of Avery cards, one has to "cut and paste" a card for every label needed. Sounds simple enough until you try or if you attempt to follow the non-functional instruction under Help. I spent nearly six hours creating and aligning a 'single' page of business cards, together with the help of several other well seasoned Apple users. No luck as to ease of execution: totally unintuitive app! What's more, the business card template is two entire sheets of cards, without the ability to delete the second and unnecessary card. Whatever happened to printing as my Avery card sheets? Sadly, business card apps that work require extended and expensive subscriptions. Other features in Pages are worthy of 4 and/or five stars; however, Pages business cards is a dud!

This app is the absolute worst app I've ever used. Incredibly buggy. Non-intuitive. Images and text keep overlaying each and jumping to places on the on their own. Add a page icon becomes disabled so I cannot add additional pages when needed. Theres no ryhme or reason to the layout structure. Text won't align with images. Layout keeps creating huge spaces between elements. Arrgghhh...I give up. Trying a competitor.
  • these ratings cannot be from unpaid reviewers

This app is abject trash. Pick a reason: from formatting nightmares (on its own for literally no reason) to its utter inability to correctly format itemized lists - numbered or otherwise. There is exactly no way this app earns the reviews that Apple props up - including the stilted number of stars. Either these reviewers aren't actually using this application, or they're simply paid reviewers. It is not a coincidence that, in spite of the UIX nightmares they are, Apple's apps consistently get gushing reviews. The reviews simply do not match reality for an overtly-noticeable number of users (Apple Weather, anyone?). Do yourself a favor, and use something else. It probably doesn't matter what that something else is, because it cannot possibly be worse than this laughable nonsense.

At last! the RETURN OF NON-CONTIGUOUS SELECTION , missing since 2013 (version 4.3). VERY welcome addition. But STILL missing fron this version are some important features that used to be present in Pages, e.g. — robust search/replace (search/replace text formatting, for example) —coulmnar selection —ability to have different font attributes in a hyperlink (yes really): impossible, e.g. to have "Homer's Iliad" with "Homer's" in Roman and "Iliad" in itals. Insane. -Text-to-table & vice-versa -Real CYMK color specification -prrofessional level PDF export Still, we're getting closer and closeer to where we were in 2013!
