I consider myself a “wordsmith.” I continually strive to write and speak better. I enjoy using proper, or more importantly effective, language in writing and speaking. It empowers one, and gives one confidence that is only obtainable continuous through inquiry and study. The dictionary site provides competent, effective and complete support in this effort. It is a foundation, and a path to better expression. I recommend it for all who seek to improve themselves both at work and in their daily engagement with others.

  • Lists and features stay behind subscription paywall

I paid money for the Dictionary.com app, and received no benefit whatsoever on Dictionary.com. No extra features, and no access to my own lists of stored words on the website. When navigating to the website, you are told that to access your own word lists, you must pay a subscription fee. To access a list of words, effectively a very very small database query. Somehow, this just feels wrong to me. It should be bundled into one service. This implies somehow that the app is a separate product from the website. They aren't! Just warning anyone who had hopes of accessing their own word lists on the website, they expect you to pay a huge subscription fee relative to what you get. I can make a list of words for free, on a notepad. I don't need to pay a subscription for that.

Don’t need 3 WotD notifications, one is more than enough.

Since retiring 7 years ago, I have increasingly relied on Dictionary.com to help me make more comprehensive sense of the highly complex human condition. Instant access to words; speedy voice recognition; instantaneous cross-referencing to relevant synonyms; the precise shades of meaning contained within the synonym lists; auxiliary tabs available for medical terminology and concise encyclopedic information; and the unavoidable mental synthesis of the various definitions and synonyms that then spontaneously turn into amazing new ideas - often life changing ones! I am hooked - and extremely grateful! Thank you Dictionary.com for unleashing my mind to help me become more the man I have ever hoped to be - and in the shortest amount of time I’ve ever experienced in my lifetime. PS: I can only imagine the range of skills and underlying experience it takes to not only formulate the most concise and informative definitions of words, their multiple meanings, and relevant synonyms, but also to come up with practical examples of how to use them in a sentence! And quite a few such practical examples actually carry an educational weight in their own right! Now how amazing is that!
