Description

I’m Phoneticus, the ideal English phonemic chart for use with Apple products. I help you learn English vocabulary, where the spelling of words doesn’t always clearly reflect how they’re pronounced.
With me, you’ll learn to read phonetics and familiarise yourself with the different types of sounds that can make up a word.
My enjoyable, efficient design makes it simple to learn how to classify consonants by place of articulation and become accustomed to British and American English vowels.
My purpose is to elevate your language skills while saving you time and effort. Let me help you to practice reading and writing English words phonetically! Phoneticus® contains both an American English and a British English phonemic chart. It also features hundreds of audio recordings from two native speakers (American and British). All recordings are available offline. The glossary defines important technical terms (affricate, alveolar, bilabial, fricative, glide, liquid, obstruent, rhotic, sonorant, diphthong, triphthong, lax, voicing, etc.). All definitions provided on this app are from Wikipedia. Each definition is accompanied by a link to the relevant Wiki entry to deepen your knowledge of English phonetics. Learning features: • Several audio recordings for each phonetic symbol. • British and American English audio pronunciations recorded by native speakers. • Two phonemic alphabet charts (English, American). • All important technical terms are defined in the glossary. Interface features: • Phoneticus® does not contain any advertisements. • No internet connection required. • Dark mode. • Portrait and landscape mode for iPad. • This app does not collect any personal data. Phoneticus® is engaged in defending Internet privacy, net neutrality and Internet anonymity.
