Description

Noir is a Safari extension that automatically adds a dark mode to every website you visit. It makes browsing the web at night so much better. With Noir, you won’t be blinded by bright websites ever again. And the results look great too. Noir generates a custom dark style for each website you visit, based on the colors that are used on a page. You won’t even notice this happening in the background – that’s how fast it is – but you’ll certainly appreciate the end result: a beautiful dark mode tailored for each website, where contrast is preserved and highlights still pop. And with over 20 built-in themes and the ability to create your own, you can customize the results exactly the way you want. Noir works with any website you visit in Safari, automatically. By default, Noir is linked to your device’s Dark Mode, so websites will only go dark when you want them to. But you can easily customize this to your liking, even per website. Only want to use Noir on just a few specific websites? Sure thing! Disable Noir on some websites? No problem! Built from the ground up for iOS and iPadOS, the app feels right at home on your device. It supports the brand new Safari web extension feature, which means there’s no need to manually activate it every time you load a new page. The app also tightly integrates with system features such as Shortcuts, Control Center, Focus Filters, and Widgets to fully integrate Noir in all your workflows. And your settings are automatically synced to all your devices using iCloud. And just as importantly, Noir takes your privacy seriously: it doesn’t collect any of your browsing data. Period. Noir is made by an indie iOS developer. It does not include any subscriptions or ads. Buy Noir once, use it forever. Notes: • Found a website where Noir’s dark mode doesn’t look just right? Let me know by reporting it. The app will be frequently updated to address issues that are reported. Privacy Policy: • The Noir extension requires access to the websites you visit to analyze the existing style of the page and to override it with Noir's dark style. • Noir never collects your browsing data. The only data Noir ‘collects’ are your settings, and those will never leave your device or iCloud account. • You can read Noir’s full Privacy Policy at https://getnoir.app/privacypolicy

  • The perfect app for me

I insist on using dark mode everywhere possible; I can’t stand being blasted with a screen full of white pixels. But even with system-wide dark mode in iOS/macOS there was a huge gap: 99% of the internet! Then I discovered Noir, paid for the premium version right away and I couldn’t be happier with it. It solved a big problem for me. Very grateful!

When you buy and allow noir to use safari a little pop up appears. While the pop up does look odd cause it talks about noir possibly gathering information like history and passwords which is not the case. I emailed Jeff (developer of Noir) and he assured me that it is not the case. He also sent there privacy policy which is super easy and understandable to read. So far all of the websites i’ve looked at on my phone have been well dark. For 3$ Id buy it again just to keep the strain off my eyes. If you have sensitive eyes to light like me definitely buy this app.

Works great on every website, if you don’t want it to be dark you can safelist them or change your system to light super easily. Been using it for years and it has been flawless.

I’ve tried so many dark mode extensions for safari, this is by far the best one, I love I can create my own theme too
  • Requesting access to 1Password account

Appreciate the dark mode but don’t trust the app. Understand it needs access to change darkness but it shouldn’t be asking for access to a password manager. Didn’t even visit that website. Was browsing the news when it asked. Very suspect. Feels like data mining/major invasion for a paid app. Deleting.
  • Saves battery on my iPhone is a bonus! Easy to use and easy on the eyes! All 5 stars!

Update 3/27/25: I really appreciate the devs responding and I also really really liked the app (as you can see from my crazy long review below), but I had to eventually un-install it a from my shortcuts a few days after DL. When I had it installed (I have an iPhone 15 pro max, so not a old-ish iPhone btw. Also I use safari as my phone Internet browser) web pages would not load correctly. I would have to re-load the web pages pretty much all the time or sometimes re-loading wouldn’t work and everything on the page would just look wonky. I really wanted this to work because like I said in my review, I have light sensitivity & I prefer my phone to be on dark mode (I can read everything better and it doesn’t hurt my eyes so much) and some websites are now having options to be able to change to dark mode or will automatically change if that is your phones settings. But the majority don’t have that yet so their background will be white. I have “night shift” turned on for websites like that, but sometimes it’s not enough and still will hurt my eyes/give me a headache. Anyways, it just didn’t work for me. I had to un-install it because I was getting too frustrated with having to re-load sites, sites looking super weird and sites crashing all the time. I wasn’t really sure what was going wrong but I thought maybe it had something to do with the noir extension and as soon as I turned it off safari started working fine. Bummed! ———- Just purchased the app and I felt like I had to write a review to tell the devs thank you! I have really bad photophobia/light sensitivity, especially in the evening & at night, that causes super bad headaches and makes my eyes ache and hurt. I switch anything I can to dark mode, night shift etc. I even sometimes wear these goofy light sensitivity glasses (they block specific wavelengths of light). For a long time now I was so annoyed I couldn’t change all of safari on dark mode (a few websites I could but that’s it). I found this app randomly tonight and immediately bought and downloaded it. The instructions to install it on safari were very clear and I had it up and running in just a few minutes. The app also has other colors/themes you can choose besides just black which I thought was pretty cool if someone wants to change it to sepia instead or something. Also the app itself looks really nice and I thought for what it does I would have paid more than $3 for it so I appreciate the devs for keeping it at that price. Anyways, ty to the devs for making this!!
  • Private mode website data

Extension works as expected. Pages are dark! Even though Dev ensures no data is collected, security and privacy are a concern. It also leaves website data. I am in Private mode and do not want website data sitting in my phone.

I bought Noir long time ago. It was super slow and not working at all in many websites. I just reinstalled. With all the updates it's just perfect. Thank you for such a great product!
  • Separate Licenses Req. for iOS/macOS

I guess I should have assumed since it’s only listed for iPhone and iPad that the license wasn’t good for macOS but I figured for $3 there was no way. I was wrong…app worked fine but paying $6 for two devices on the handful of websites that don’t have a dark mode is a little much.
