Description

Noir is a Safari extension that automatically adds a dark mode to every website you visit. It makes browsing the web at night so much better. With Noir, you won’t be blinded by bright websites ever again. And the results look great too. Noir generates a custom dark style for each website you visit, based on the colors that are used on a page. You won’t even notice this happening in the background – that’s how fast it is – but you’ll certainly appreciate the end result: a beautiful dark mode tailored for each website, where contrast is preserved and highlights still pop. And with over 20 built-in themes and the ability to create your own, you can customize the results exactly the way you want. Noir works with any website you visit in Safari, automatically. By default, Noir is linked to your device’s Dark Mode, so websites will only go dark when you want them to. But you can easily customize this to your liking, even per website. Only want to use Noir on just a few specific websites? Sure thing! Disable Noir on some websites? No problem! Built from the ground up for iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, the app feels right at home on your device. It supports the brand new Safari web extension feature, which means there’s no need to manually activate it every time you load a new page. The app also tightly integrates with system features such as Widgets, Focus Filters and Shortcuts to fully integrate Noir in all your workflows. And your settings are automatically synced to all your devices using iCloud. And just as importantly, Noir takes your privacy seriously: it doesn’t collect any of your browsing data. Period. Noir is made by a solo iOS developer. It does not include any subscriptions or ads. Buy Noir once, use it forever. Notes: • Found a website where Noir’s dark mode doesn’t look just right? Let me know by reporting it. The app will be frequently updated to address issues that are reported. Privacy Policy: • The Noir extension requires access to the websites you visit to analyze the existing style of the page and to override it with Noir's dark style. • Noir never collects your browsing data. The only data Noir ‘collects’ are your settings, and those will never leave your device. • You can read Noir’s full Privacy Policy at https://getnoir.app/privacypolicy

Longtime user, first time reviewer! I love how customizable Noir is, with power features like focus filters and a variety of color options. Goes way beyond your standard dark mode, and is consistently updated. Great app, great developer.

Very good dark mode app, customizable and reliably updated, that picks up where Apple simply doesn’t care. If you have sensitive eyes, this is a winner.

One dark night while surfing the web, I was blinded by a bright white web page… That’s how my story with Noir starts, and most likely how you ended up here reading this, after that final, annoying last straw, I started looking into dark mode extensions for Safari. I tried several other free apps and was disappointed, either they made the sites look janky or strange, or it was painfully obvious an attempted dark mode was being applied. After giving up on all the free options, I took the plunge and purchased Noir (it’s less than half the price of a latte these days). I couldn’t be happier with that purchase, Noir works **almost** seamlessly, so well in fact most of the time I don’t realize that Noir is creating the dark mode… until I visit the site on my MacBook… so then I bought the Mac Noir Safari extension as well! As other users point out the only times this doesn’t work seamlessly is on image heavy websites and a few websites that it hides content on, but with constant updates it keeps getting better! Apple should hire this guy and make it a native feature for Safari!

Overall this app is perfect! It allows me to make websites respect my system appearance settings. The only improvement I can think of would be allowing setting a theme for light mode as well, such as enabling more paper-accurate colors for reading articles on. Other than that, 10/10!
  • Awesome!

After reading the reviews I thought I would give it a try though I was a bit skeptical. After setting the app up and playing with the settings. I am quite happy with the app!

This app is perfect for scrolling through websites that don’t have dark mode enabled. I also really love that I can have custom themes for websites!
  • private browsing data

With this extension turned on, if you are using a private browsing tab, the data still gets saved. For example, if you go to a website in a private tab with the extension enabled, you will find the corresponding data saved in settings -> safari -> advanced -> website data. However, this doesn’t happen if you turn the extension off. Updated: with iOS 17, we can turn off extensions per private or public browsing so it’s a valid workaround.

I was looking through “Safari Extensions” one day as I never really used them before, then came along ‘Noir’. The $1.99 (give or take $1) sort of made me think if it was worth paying, but I gave it a whirl. While I personally only have issues on the sights that contain vivid white imagery to convey their UI, other sites work marvelously with Noir. I, a student, find this also a cheeky way to “hide” what I’m reading from other classmates because some can snoop and as I’m the only one with the iPad it’s sorta awkward. My favorite feature is when you’re editing a theme you get a random Noir-related news company with a newspaper style story about the theme. Haha, what a nice touch! It just refreshes whenever the control center is toggled I’ve found. Sorta wish it was a system wide feature but that is beyond any iOS app capability. Color Filters work best with other apps.
