  • Great App, not so Great Company

App is great but get ready to pay for every little rule and option because lord forbid WotC not try and nickel and dime the very costumers who seem to be one more scandal away from finally switching to Pathfinder
  • Mobile version gets no love

Not only are a lot of things limited or just unavailable on Mobile, but half the time what is there doesn’t ever work. All of my buddies who use this app can agree, it’s only worth it for character sheet ease of access and dice rolling if you don’t have any. All the content that I can find for free with a quick google is also locked behind a paywall, so it makes it even more annoying when making character sheets and I have to have a separate sheet for items and whatnot because I’m not paying $30 for an online book that I already own in person. Just use Roll20

Have to go back to table of contents to get to the next section. Super baffling design since they dont offer a pdf
  • The feature and functionality is in decline

I have been using D&D Beyond for years. Almost since it first came out. There were many great features, adding to the convenience of using this tool, sadly, many of them have fallen by the wayside. The inability to buy individual features or functions out of a book instead of having to buy the full book was absolutely invaluable. It’s clear that Hasbro has begun to employ predatory business practices. They were clearly not kidding when they said that they were going to do what they could to fully monetize their DND player base. It all started with making all the conveniences of this tool, and putting them behind pay walls and raising behind larger ones. I am currently running a couple of campaigns, I’m done with those campaigns, I will be hard-pressed to consider continuing to use this system. So sad.

  • Joke of a company

Canceled my membership after countless years of sharing materials I’ve built up on the platform. After waiting months for their customer support to get back to me over a question, they decided to send a macro response. I asked for a clarifying answer and got a second macro response. I asked for a supervisor and got a third macro response. If you want to keep customers how about actually treating them like humans? Highly do not recommend supporting this company.

  • Slightly tedious, but still very valuable

I still prefer this over the book for obvious portability and universal access, especially since I mostly play virtually with friends. Hardback books are a bit better in a group since you can pass it around for others to use, though if you have a dedicated tablet or something you can fill this purpose. That said, the app can be a little tedious to use since everything is organized in chapters. Treating everything as a single PDF-life document, that still has the same searchability and clickable links as it does now, might make using the app more intuitive. I would give 4.5 Starts (or 9/10) if I could, with the half star drop being from some odd functionalities that aren’t intuitive relative to most any other phone-based data collection functions.
