Used to be able to see land ownership but they made that a “premium” feature. Now it’s just google maps lol
  • Good software but….

Good mapping software and when combined with insider, it’s a no brainer. Way cheaper than other options if going for more than one state. There’s still bugs though that I hope they will improve. List of things I want to see improved: 1. Better imagery. This is the big one. The quality is still sub par to competitors and way below Google earth. 2. UI. The names of roads, peaks, and rivers are way too small and shrink as you zoom in so it’s impossible to read them. 3. Downloadable maps are sluggish and could be improved.

First I would like to say that I love GoHunt a a company. I love the insider, articles, store and podcast. It truly has made me a more effective hunter. That is why I am disappointed in the mapping software. It is great until the time I have to take it offline. I download my maps and head to the field, once out of cell service is when the trouble starts. Either my app won’t open, takes a long time to load, does not load maps at all and can’t keep track of where I am if I lock my phone. Yes, I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling and worked on location settings. I work in the tech field and am pretty savvy with these things. Unfortunately, I just cannot get offline maps to function as they should. I use another navigation app that has never let me down and must stick with it until these problems are solved. Note, I will continue to buy the full bundle because I like gohunt so much and hope in the future the mapping software is better.

If the app closes downloads restart. It seem like everytime I open the app I have to re-download maps I already downloaded. It’s well thought out if it functioned. This app is in the back of the pack when it comes to the other apps.
  • Okay, but disappointed overall.

First, I’ll say I love the company and what they promote. This is meant to be constructive, and to hopefully lead to a better product. The bugs on the app really impacted my most recent hunt. It was a 6 day, mostly out of cell service type hunt. Twice during the trip, I was force logged out of my Insider account while in offline mode and unable to use any of the features I was relying on for navigation, boundaries, and property lines. With no way to verify I was indeed an Insider, I was stuck until I was able to get off the mountain and reconnect to the internet. This was EXTREMELY damaging for the overall experience. Secondly, the offline map downloading is clunky, and did not work properly in my case. I was able to download satellite and USGS Topo maps, but the GH Topo would never download for use offline. I was looking forward to using the new GH Topo but without offline capability, I never had the chance. Additionally, a more effective method for choosing a download area would be great. For instance, allow the user to download and entire hunt unit for a state, and allow them to pick what specific overlays they want (satellite is data intensive and far less useful in most of my use cases). Third, I had one occasion where I recorded a track for an entire day of hunting. After pressing “Finish”, the track line persisted for awhile, but wouldn’t let me select it to view details. I restarted the app to try again, and the track that I spent all day recording was just gone. That is at best annoying, and at worst, could be the reason for permanently lost equipment, animals, or valuable hunt data. Fourth, there is no key for the road types that are overlayed. The key is available on the desktop version, but there is nothing for the mobile app (that I can find). Fifth, I failed to check for updates immediately before leaving for the field on an 8 day hunt without service. After getting to my hunt location I pulled up my previously downloaded state layer, and it the app told me it needed updated, and then it removed itself. There was no option to use the old data, it was just gone. This left me with no unit borders on my app, and forced me to shy away from the edges where I wanted to hunt. Again, inconvenient at best. If I was relying on that for my sole navigation in a new area, it could’ve been much worst. In conclusion, I think the folks at Go Hunt have a good starting product. However, it is not robust or redundant enough for me to recommend to anyone that operates out of cell coverage for extended periods. The app has been a much greater headache this season than it has an asset. I like the other Insider features, but for the mapping tools, I’m going to have to go with a competitor for the time being.

Really love this app, I’ve used on many hunts and its always been top notch! Really glad the released the new gh topo layer, I think that really makes it better then onx as far as maps go. One thing I would like to see, would be an iPad version of this app. I do most of my e-scouting on my iPad, so it would be nice to be able to use the app that’s designed for iPad, and not just the website. Overall you can’t beat GOHUNT, the whole package with the insider membership is amazing. Totally worth it to anyone who does any kind of hunting out west.

Good hunting app comparable with OnX, plus it’s a better deal. Only thing I would improve is ability to download larger maps and add trails to the new topo feature instead of having to add it in as a layer.
