And after a month or so…

I got into meditation and zen philosophy back in the early 90s. I’ve considered myself quite the zen snob after a few years of practice and up until I started training under Liam recently, which I now realize I can’t be a snob and have a beginner’s mind… (little zen humor there.)
At first, I tried the free foundation courses for a few weeks. The free samples do not require a trial or anything, so I was able to practice without any time pressure of the trial period running out. That worked out perfectly, because it was enough for me to determine if I wanted more without the pressure of a ‘free trial’ expiring. The app does offer a trial period, but there’s six or so foundation courses available for free upon download, which was enough of a sample to make an informed decision.
There’s something very beautiful and perfect about the way Liam has calculated exactly when to say exactly what I need to hear at that exact moment in the practice to push me another step further on my path, and his calm, peace-emitting voice makes it that much easier to follow along.
Overall: This is the best product I’ve encountered on the market for meditation. There’s times in the trainings when I’m like “wow, how did he know that?” And with enough practice, you too will be delightfully impressed with how thoroughly and elegantly designed the training sessions are, and possibly wonder if Liam is sitting in front of a microphone every time you meditate feeding you personal instruction and there really is no app, and it’s really just a monk standing by ready to jump on the mic every time I click a training, I mean obviously (probably) not, but the timing is so perfect, makes you wonder.
Let me add, I am not the type of person to spend money on apps or subscriptions or anything online. I wrestled with the idea of a monthly or annual membership for a while—considered the one time lifetime membership before realizing it would take months to save up for that, possibly years, and eventually accepted that $20/month is a small price to pay to have access to the many trainings, because of one word: “Effective.” The trainings worked for me. So, this is the first mental health app I feel comfortable renewing monthly for the foreseeable future.
Not every session is the right fit for me, and that’s okay. He’s covered the full spectrum (I imagine) and part of the process is finding the ones that make sense for your journey.
The app does have a few minor issues that as a tech writer, I feel could use some better written instruction. For example, the Explore tab has disappeared recently, so I can’t find the link to send the free month gift to friends. FAQs direct me to the Explore tab, so…?
Also, sometimes the volume mutes when casting to a tv or Roku stick. Not sure if that’s iOS or the external device or the app causing it, and I can play without casting if that happens, so relatively minor.
On a personal note:
I’d like to see a meditation / hypnotherapy for quitting cigarette smoking. I know there is a few on cravings, but a training specifically on quitting smoking would be epic. I only say that because I’ve tried a lot of quit smoking plans, hypnosis, the mad Boston guy, etc etc, the closest I’ve ever come was a hypnotherapy cd years ago that was a 20 minute recording I listened to daily, and reduced my smoking to 1 or 2 a day. I mention that because the therapy was very similar to the body scan training, and I imagine Liam would create a powerful session that could replace that cd I lost long ago and cannot seem to remember where I got it, and therefore cannot buy a replacement.
