Description

A Dance of Fire and Ice is a strict one-button rhythm game. Keep your focus as you guide two orbiting planets down a path without breaking their perfect equilibrium. It's pretty hard to describe, but you should play the free online version on a desktop computer first if you are not sure if you would enjoy this game! Features: - More than 10 worlds, each introducing new shapes and rhythms. What do triangles, octagons or squares sound like? Each world starts with small tutorial stages and ends with a final test. - Post-game challenges: Speed Trials for each world and a blisteringly fast bonus level for the brave. - Calibration options: auto-calibration and manual calibration. This is a precise rhythm game, so use your ears more than your eyes when playing. - Play new levels for free: more levels will be added over the coming months. WARNING: This is a hard rhythm game. Not in the sense of note-spamming - for the most part all you have to do is keep a consistent beat - but this is a good test of whether you would be a good drummer. Keeping a beat is not very easy, and then weird breakbeats are added on top of that, so don't worry if you find it difficult!

This is the rhythm game that got me into playing rhythm games. I’d heard of ddr and taiko and osu, they’re all good but I could never get too into them. Since I didn’t have a wii/ds during rhythm heaven existing, this was my first real rhythm game, and wow. I was horrible. Still am. ADOFAI’s gimmick is that you can’t miss a beat- spamming or not tapping will make you die and send you back to the beginning (some stages have checkpoints, which don’t expire, but that’s irrelevant). The hits are indicated on tiles, you start turning clockwise and tap every time one planet hits a tile. Quicker turns and slower turns are inner and outer angles respectively, verticality is offbeats. 90 degrees = 1/2 a beat, 45 = 1/4, 30 = 1/3, etc. More tile types are introduced in extra levels- midspins that you hit and keep moving, and u-turns which take two beats rather than one. These two are used quite often in fast levels. The PC version of ADOFAI comes equipped with a rather good level editor, which includes 99% the features of levels in the vanilla game, plus some filters and other effects for you to use. The steam version even comes with workshop support, although you will need to contact the artist of the song you wish to use if they aren’t verified on the list of creators already provided. This version of the game hasn’t been updated since its Rhythm Journey collab, which is honestly a shame. On the PC version, a paid DLC has been released (it’s worth it!!) plus a few extra levels, namely (presumably) the last crown level in the game. Honestly, don’t get this version. Apple tax plus outdated features makes this possibly the least viable version of the game-though it is the cheapest-and frankly you should be able to spare like 3 bucks more for what is most certainly a rhythm game with so much love and care put into it. 10/10.

This is by far one of the greatest “music” related games I have ever played. Besides osu! this is 2nd on my top 10 list of greatest “music” games. My favorite song is “The Midnight Train” it has such a good rhythm to it and great piano in the background. I even downloaded the track so I can listen to it in my free time. Good job and I hope to see more updates to mobile version!!!

Although it’s paid, it’s only $2 which really isn’t much for an entire game and it has no ads which is great. I played a html version on an unblocked games website on the school computer and when I got on the bus I found this on the App Store. It’s very fun and I highly recommend it.
  • My favorite rhythm game from the last 5 years

Deceptively simple and endlessly challenging, this is the 4th time I’ve bought this game. If you’re up for a challenge there’s nothing I’d recommend more.
