If you have used dictionaries and lists in Shortcuts, then you’ll find that the data format used by Data Jar is very similar. - Extensive support for Shortcuts, enabling you to read and update data directly from Shortcuts. - Store text, numbers, booleans, lists, dictionaries and even files. - Files are stored in iCloud Drive and can be accessed from the Files app. - Support for multiple windows and drag and drop on the iPad. - Synchronisation between devices using iCloud. Data Jar is free to use but contains a tip jar where users can pay a few bucks to support the developer.

This is awesome for just keeping data, like notes or anything, but the way that this interacts with shortcuts is amazing. I used to use apple notes and reminders to store my data for shortcuts. This is a million times better. And this app has a lot of actions in shortcuts, which is teaching me even more ways to be efficient. Love it!

No adds, no initial cost, no special account needed. Just a tip jar. I’ve used it for 15 minutes and already left a tip. This fills an important niche for anyone writing shortcuts!

I have been using this app for some time now. It’s a lot more lightweight than the alternatives, and it’s extremely straightforward. I’ve been using this app primarily to help me do time management, but I love the idea that I can do more if I so choose. My only gripe, which is just a personal ‘inconvenience’, if even that, is that there isn’t a standalone app for the Apple Watch. But really, the convenience of this app has spoiled me.
  • I just got the app and it's asking for a review.

How am I supposed to know if I will use it, much less how to rate it! I'm giving a 3 for benefit of the doubt.

Great for simple storage of values to persist between Shortcut runs. A great, purpose-built tool! I'm so glad that this syncs between iphone and mac. So many workflows for me are possible because of this.

DataJar is like being handed the KEYS to the candy store. See what I did there? Get this app and say goodbye to your free time. It is the world’s deepest rabbit hole. I never want to stop exploring.

Tested this on Mac, iPad, and iOS. Smooth on all three. Provides essential variable and data storage for the Shortcuts app. Essentially allows you to create a local / iCloud database. Easily query your data using menus. Also pairs well with his OTHER app called Scriptable, allowing Javascript-esque data manipulation. Personal experience tip here: learn the differences between working with Lists and with Dictionaries.
