I need to work with numerous images which the app randomly reorders when batch importing. This is a basic feature fail. Where is that page? Go fish.

Odd things for no reason; usually, not able to save a document. This app had no problem.
  • This one worked!

This is the fifth OCR program I downloaded from App Store today. I had a typed 96 page PDSF document to convert. This is the only program that finally worked. Really great accuracy. I was satisfied enough to buy the Pro version. No complaints so far. Thanks for helping me get my work done.

  • UPDATED REVIEW: Once-great app dumbed-down & ruined

I tested about a dozen PDF reducers against each other a couple years ago, and at that time PDFify was the clear winner — consistently creating the smallest file sizes with the highest quality. But then came PDFify 3.x, which took away 8 clear and understandable compression options, replacing them with only 3 vague and dumbed-down options — Strong, Medium, Low. Strong Compression *invariably* produces PDFs that are so fuzzy as to be useless. Medium Compression *always* creates files 2-3x bigger than than PDFify 2.7 produced for the same quality result. And Low Compression is *never* worth the trouble, reducing file size by 2%-3% — if you’re lucky. PDFify 2.7 was free, and fantastic. PDFify 3.x is $23. If you pony up, you can create your own compression and quality options, but that requires a lot of experimentation to get right, and it’s something you can also do using Mac’s built-in ColorSync Utility (which creates additional quality options in the Quartz Filter menu when saving-as-PDF in Preview.app). It’s a true pity this once-great app has been ruined.
  • Essential App for Making Searchable PDFs

After getting my Epson GT-S80 scanner to work with my MacBook Pro, I discovered the Epson software didn't have OCR. Tried PDFify and made my scanned PDFs searchable in a few minutes. Stunning performance on big files (100 pages of scanned text) at no cost! Also very nice conversion of Apple mail messages to pretty PDFs!

It’s a free app, so expectations should be low; many on the Mac app store charge quite a bit for OCR functionalty. The scanner works perfectly using the standard MacOS scanner interface. The OCR works fast, but as the developer notes, it may choke on some large files - I tried to OCR a 57 page PDF. What impressed me most was a scan of a rumpled receipt that I did to test other OCR programs. This app recognized far more of it than the other ones I tried. It also did a great job with a short scanned letter. Highly recommend for simple scanning and OCR. Also glad to see this free app doesn’t require Catalina.

If you need a free app to make your PDF searchable, this is the App. Does what it's supposed to do.
