Description

A game I made For a certain kind of person To hurt them. • Climb up an enormous mountain with nothing but a hammer and a pot. • Listen as I make philosophical observations about the problem at hand. • Between 2 and ∞ hours of agonizing gameplay, depending. The median time to finish for my playtesters was 5 hours, but the mean was closer to ∞. • Lose all your progress, over and over. • Feel new types of frustration you didn't know you were capable of.

Is the game hard? Yes. Is the game frustrating? At times. Is that what this is about? No. The problem here is that the port from mouse controls to touchscreen was done poorly. I’ve played this at multiple different sensitivity settings and it doesn’t change the fact that similar inputs against similar surfaces will routinely have wildly different outcomes. Making matters worse is that the sensitivity setting seems to also impact input speed, so sections that demand a certain minimum distance be covered are all but impossible from a controls standpoint. This is all frustrating as the gameplay loop itself is very, very enjoyable. If there was some way to fix the input to make it more predictable*, this would be a great game. (As an aside, unless Foddy programmed some sort of randomness into the game, the unpredictability of QWOP is a result of the interaction of complex systems. Pressing any of the keys is going to result in the same predictable motion every time, it’s just that those four inputs plus the physics criteria are creating novel outputs. That is fundamentally different from doing the same exact input and getting two different outputs.)

A game that is only hard because the controls are bad is not a hard game, it’s just a bad game. You will end up closing this app trying to use the controls, which are terrible.

If you have this condition O.D.D(a condition where you get mad over little things.) then I highly recommend that you do not play this game and stay away from it as possible. How do I know this? I have that condition. I literally screamed so hard I could break the sound barrier, I have slap myself in the thigh and left extremely red marks on my thigh, and I even threw my remote and the batteries even kept falling out! Very good game, the graphics are nice but since it is a rage game, I DEFIANTLY hate rage games so for that reason, 4 stars.
