  • Broke with iPadOS 18

After upgrading to iPadOS18, I found that the app boots to a white page with a Canvas logo, then does nothing. I tried tech support, but they said they hadn’t yet updated their devices so they couldn’t help me. If this app is vital to your work, don’t upgrade yet!
  • Spedgrader renders annotations illegible

When I grade student work using my iPad and Apple Pencil, my handwriting initially seems normal. However, when I return to my saved annotations, it looks like canvas is saving a lower quality version of my annotations that make my words almost impossible to read. I’d love to see this solved!
  • 9-11-2024 Comment Rich Content Editor

The new rich content editor for comments deployed on 9-11-2024 isn't compatible with the latest app. Comments aren't formatted at all and are displayed as plain text all of the HTML codes, making them hard to read on mobile devices. How can Canvas roll out a major feature like this without updating the app too?
  • Getting better but not quite there (yet)

Love most aspects of this app. I manage almost everything on this app (on my iPad Pro) and what I can’t do on this app I use a web browser for. This update certainly improved the inbox however I still cannot read responses to my “submission comments” (from students) using the app. I’d love to do that in the app. The other feature I would love to see is the ability to sort assignments by “date submitted” in Speed Grader Overall, still a fantastic app

I downloaded the canvas teacher app to use and it won’t go past the main screen for me to login, it just sits with the symbol rotating
  • STILL no specific feedback in rubrics??

Update: It’s Sept. 2024, and still no feedback in the rubric? I’ve made this comment on here for years. I also can’t edit a total grade score if it’s been set to follow a grade book rule like automatically deducting for late submissions. When I’m grading on mobile, I can’t waive automatically enforced late penalties for students I have excused or those with with disability accommodations. Why not create an app with full compatibility with the desktop version in a standalone product? It’s frustrating. I use Canvas for 5 different colleges and teach like 10 classes at a time. I would love for Canvas to be as amazing as people claim. Update: Over a year later. Still…why??? It’s unacceptable that I cannot provide individualized feedback within each criteria of the rubric (like I can on the desktop). Literally, why? If I make the feedback on the desktop, I can see it in the app, and I can even edit it! So why on earth can’t I create that feedback in the app when grading? I’ve lamented this for five years hoping that one day this obviously needed feature would one day appear...to no avail. Otherwise, this app is fire. Make it better.
  • Alphabetizing of Students

The app has suddenly alphabetized the student roster by the first name instead of the last name. So when I click on an assignment, it’s alphabatized by the first name, whereas the class roster is alphabetized by last name (which is what its supposed to be). It makes it difficult to submit grades when all other Canvas sites alphabetize by last name. Please fix the issue! Please!
  • Recent update

Recent update glitches when replying to students in discussions. Grading feature isn’t as use friendly as previous versions.
  • Terribly unstable

The Canvas Teacher application is almost useless. Yes, you can use it to view or edit your assignments while on the go, which is occasionally helpful if you made a mistake with a due date or found a typo. The usefulness completely evaporates once you try to drill down to a specific student. Without fail, the app will present an error screen, complete with a worried panda icon, indicating that “something went wrong.” If I am both fast and lucky, I can get one student open, open an assignment submission, and enter a grade or comment. More often than not, however, I get the tragic panda and have to close the application and try again, usually without success. This issue has persisted across multiple devices and updates. I had foolishly hoped that today’s update would address this problem, but alas, it did not. I recommend avoiding Canvas Teacher unless you have no other option.

I only use this app to write on/grade my students’ PDF submissions as it is too cumbersome and limiting otherwise. My issue with the writing tool is the “swipe to next student” feature. It is far too sensitive and often swipes to the next student while I am scrolling or writing. A slight bump of the wrist will also swipe to the next student. I would love to see the sensitivity of the swipe feature adjusted for more deliberate swipes, or remove the swipe option all together and add a button for next student.
