Description

Since 1963, The New York Review of Books has been the place where the world’s leading authors, scientists, educators, artists, and political leaders turn when they wish to engage in a spirited debate on literature, politics, art, and ideas with a small but influential audience that welcomes the challenge. Each issue addresses some of the most passionate political and cultural controversies of the day and reviews the most engrossing new books and the ideas that illuminate them.
The print edition of The New York Review of Books, included in the app, is published 20 times a year. The app also includes all of our online-only content. Articles can be bookmarked for later reading, and the app includes a link to browse our shop, The Reader’s Catalog. Current print and online-only subscribers receive full access to the app through existing website login credentials (email and password). The app may also be purchased directly through the app store. Purchases made through the app store do not include access to The Review’s website and complete archive. App store pricing: • 1-month subscription - $5.99 • 1-year subscription - $59.99 SUBSCRIBERS’ AUTOMATIC-RENEWAL FEATURE: Your subscription will be charged to your iTunes account at confirmation of purchase and will automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period. No American publication covers as much ground, whether it’s current events, the arts , literature new and old.

There are so many better ways to navigate a PDF document. Please update is app to modern technologies.

Always thorough, always thoughtful, always the best. Learn about new books and old ones. The essays are always well written, and very much on point. A truly excellent literary publication.
  • Huge Improvement

The recent update is a big improvement over the old version. I’m actually using the app more than the website now. The only big issue is the limited font size selection. It’s either tiny or huge.

  • Dreadfully Bad App

The content is the best in the erudite literature magazine world. The app is a waking nightmare. - No dark mode (in June of 2023!) - No ability to view titles of books or films being reviewed anywhere in this app - No way to modify text settings in an article without leaving and navigating to settings, where there is precisely ONE text setting (its size, how exciting) - No way to view the PDF version anymore (why take this functionality away??) It is overall an abysmal app, especially given that this is the “new and improved” version, recently released. What in the world is the publisher thinking? This app looks like it came out of 2009. Please fix your app, NYRB, to at least be close to as high a quality as your superb publication.

Not the app, but the payment system. I was automatically charged 11.99 to renew the iPhone app, but it still won’t give me access. And my desktop version expired so I went to renew, they offered a $49 special, then charged me $99. It’s not that I mind paying; I just wish they would make it easier, more consistent, and not double charge me.

A nightmare to set up. Insistent on allowing cookies. Content is only reason to use but be prepared for technical frustration.
  • Erudite fun

Writers with deep backgrounds in their subject, however esoteric, answers to why complex contemporary events have occurred, the writers I habitually follow and learn from—these reasons explain why I read NYRB and have since the days of Auden, Arendt, Sontag and Wills.
