  • Saving me Tons of Time

I wrote my own software to automate card image production a while back, but the open-source tech stack on which I had based it changed enough that my software stopped working. I went looking for replacements, and found several credible-looking tools, but all seemed to want to charge fairly steep monthly fees for their use -- probably quite worth it if you're doing this sort of design regularly, but I'm enough of a dilettante that it was hard to justify the expense. Enter Multideck! It does pretty much everything I need, and with a nice, info-dense GUI. I've been having a grand time getting my data ported from YAML to CSV and then figuring out all the new capabilities I now have at my disposal. One feature request: in addition to the existing "Stretch to Fit" option for images (which doesn't respect aspect ratios), I'd love a "Grow to Fill" option that would keep the aspect ratio of the original image intact, but just crop the edges as needed to fill the available space. This would allow me to use placeholder imagery of varying aspect ratios without disrupting the layout of the card. In any case, thanks for the specialized, but *very* useful tool.

An essential tool that works great and has many useful features. I would like to see this app for ios, as that is primarly what I am using to create these days.

This is a fantastic app for prototyping cards for board games/card games. Lots of features. Check the developer's website for tutorials. The developer has been very helpful when I've had questions in the past. Highly recommended.

does exactly what it says. Watch the tutorial videos on the developers site to get going. its really flexible and powerful and never having used a templating tool before like this i was blown away about how clever it is. Basically you need a csv file (a spread sheet) for each of your card types where each row is a different card and each column is a feature of that card you want on there. like name of an image file, numbers, text and so on. then in the software you just basically drag and drop objects onto youre template to show werere you want those different card features to show up. you do that once and then the software will generate all your cards from that csv file. It has a number of printing options and just works great i could not be happier with this software. This has not only enabled me to realize some game ideas ive had in the past but it has really inspired me to try new things. Highly recomend this totaly worth the price!

Thank you for taking the time and effort into making this program. I listened to Ludology episode, Winging It, and was a little bummed after I learned I could not use nanDeck without partitioning my mac. Thanks again. Will participate in adding detailed feedback to your multideck guild page on boardgamegeek if I can.

This is a specific tool for a specific job and it does that job well! I have been using adobe Indesign data merge tool to make decks of cards for a long time. while i would still recommend adobe for high end finished graphics and typesetting Multideck is enough to get profesional looking cards made quickly and easily. also it does not cost $50 a month so on a game designers sallary it is actually affordable. As I already knew data marge i’m not sure I can recomend this product if you have no failiarity working with data merge in other programs but with my previous knowledge the documentation was good enough that I learned to use the program after a few hours of work.
