Upside: Cash Back - Gas & Food

I tried this app, and it gives you a promo for an extra 30c/gal on first use then lets you pick an offer to “claim”. I claimed an offer that it said was 40c/gal and it was supposed to add the 30c/gal on top of that. When I submitted this, it changed it to 10c/gal after the fact and did not use the promo offer at all. I ended up paying more for the gas *after discounts* than I would have by just going to the less expensive station I usually go to. Don’t waste your time with it, it will trick you into paying *more* for your gas.

In the beginning with bonus discounts we were seeing around 60¢/gal off at some places, 20% off grocery, 40% off restaurants, just wild! Discounts seem to mostly go down after that though, and your offers will be different from your friends and family. We asked Upside support about this and they said your discounts depend on a wide range of factors that are always changing, both on your end and for each business. Time of day, how often you go, how much the business wants to discount, etc. I’ve noticed that some restaurants and grocery stores will have a limited number of offers that you can claim in a day as well, so keep an eye out for that. Upside support also clarified that active bonuses will show up on the current discounts you see, but will be applied to the next incoming transaction, which you might have already done, and it’s just taking days to process. So this can also be a little confusing but so far all of our transactions seem to have gone through no problem. Sometimes it just takes 2–5 days. My first gas experience needed a photo of the receipt, and needed me to type extra info about the station, but since then most places don’t require anything, apparently they match your card’s last digits with the business’ records to verify. Also your card info is submitted through Stripe which I already use and is very secure. Don’t expect transactions, cash back, and cash outs to happen quickly. Rather look at this as an occasional rebate where you get a nice chunk of cash you’ve built up, after you’ve waited to pass the $15 minimum of cashing out with no fee. So far for us it has been a great app that is helping us save money and also helping some of our local businesses receive more customers, which is great! 👍

The app is user friendly and hassle free. Who doesn’t love getting rewards for everyday purchases like gas and food.

There’s no way you can earn $5 by pumping gas especially with the prices and only pennies on the amount of gallons
